Positivity!
Today while I was checking the tests we performed the other day, we finally had a positive Simmons Citrate test. This test can be used to determine certain coliforms (e.g. Enterobacter aerogenes). This bacteria can naturally occur in soil. This test helps us find out if a bacteria uses sodium citrate as it's sole carbon source. We also may have identified one bacteria so far for another one of our samples. It's called deinococcus radiodurans. This bacteria can survive in the most extreme conditions (cold, dehydration, etc.). It made The Guinness Book of World Records for the toughest bacteria.

You guys are doing so much testing. It's great experience. I'm glad things are starting to move at a more steady pace for you. Your picture is so pretty! I always wondered what the microbiomes were like in Phoenix given that it's so hot and arid so much of the year. What kind of area is the plant located in that you're getting your samples from?

ReplyDeleteThat’s crazy to see that bacteria can survive those extreme conditions. where are you getting your samples from? are they here in town or somewhere else? It’s good to see your tests are running smoothly and you haven’t had any setbacks again. I want to see what your end results are when they are done.
